From Prisoner to Magician…

I didn’t know it at the time, but my search began when I was a little girl—as an attempt to protect myself from all the uncertainty life presented.

Because I never formed a secure attachment to either of my parents or early caregivers, I felt energetically untethered from everyone and everything. On a subconscious level, I came to believe that I was utterly alone in the world. And much of what followed in my life became a response to this core belief.

I built a fortress around myself out of competence, resourcefulness, and fierce independence. If I could do everything on my own, I would never have to rely on anyone—for the people I had relied upon had always let me down.

But the fortress that protected me also became my prison.

I was trapped within a carefully constructed illusion of self-sufficiency, convinced that I did not need anyone in order to live a happy life. Yet by protecting this belief, I continued to perpetuate the subconscious “truth” I had accepted as a child: that I was utterly alone in the world.

And so, I was.

In high school, I became a relentless overachiever because I did not know that I was inherently worthy. I believed I had to work hard and accomplish something before I could deserve love, recognition, or approval. From this, I developed the deeper belief that life was inherently strenuous—and that worthiness had to be hard earned.

Growing up, I also lacked the reassurance of my father’s affection, presence, or guidance. And without a protective masculine figure to help me feel secure in an overwhelmingly chaotic world, I came to believe that the world was profoundly unsafe. I felt that I had to protect myself because, if I didn’t, who would?

That belief eventually led me to join the military, learn martial arts, and conceal every part of myself that felt vulnerable. In doing so, I rejected, disowned, and banished many of my feminine qualities from the way I moved through the world.

So what began as a little girl’s attempt to survive eventually became an entire identity I would have to learn how to release.

What eventually guided me out of all this was recognizing the pattern.

For even after leaving my father’s house at eighteen, the same themes of isolation, loneliness, and unsafety followed me throughout my twenties and well into my thirties. I moved nearly two thousand miles across the country, not realizing at the time, that I was trying to outrun my past and escape my pain. I was determined to create an entirely new life for myself, yet I found myself repeating the same story against a different backdrop—with the same characters dressed in different costumes.

What is happening here? What am I missing?

Over the course of my journey, I came to understand that much of the pain I experienced in adulthood—including the downward spiral of addiction in which I became trapped—had its roots in unresolved childhood experiences. These experiences were not returning to punish me, but they were asking to be witnessed, felt, and met with the love and presence they had never received.

By shining the light of my consciousness upon them, I could finally give them their rightful place within my story. The past no longer had to repeat itself in order to be acknowledged. It could become part of a larger, more complete narrative—and my life could continue.

This is, essentially, the work of integration.

When we run from ourselves and from the painful experiences of our childhood, it can feel as though a phantom is forever chasing us. We are terrified to turn around, fearing that we will come face-to-face with some grotesque and insurmountable monster. And so we spend years, decades, sometimes even lifetimes, running from the Shadow.

Yet the paradox is that the moment we turn toward the Shadow and illuminate it with the light of our consciousness, our awareness, it softens into integration.

When we become attentive to what is arising within us—our thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, images, memories, and other intuitive ways of knowing—we begin to sense where Spirit is leading us.

The inquiry then becomes:

How can I deepen my connection to my thoughts, feelings, sensations, and intuition? How can I become more receptive to what Spirit is revealing about me, the potential within this moment, and the direction I am being invited to take?

As we deepen this practice of honest, attentive listening, we discover that the journey is not leading us away from ourselves, but more deeply into ourselves—and into our wholeness. For hidden within the Shadow are not only our wounds, but also the precious gems of our God-given gifts and our unique magic.

As we reclaim these gifts, life becomes a celebration of expressing them. Love, abundance, creativity, and magic begin to flow more naturally through us. We become magnetic—not because we are striving to attract something outside ourselves, but because we are coming into vibrational alignment with what is already true within us.

This Divine Design is, in essence, what the cosmic blueprint reveals. By aligning ourselves with the cosmic forces at work in our lives, we learn to move with the benevolent unfolding of our path. We can surrender to the divine orchestration of which we have always been a part, no longer resisting its movement or fearing where it may lead us.

What happens next is nothing short of magical. Manifesting your truest desires becomes an inevitability, rather than a project or arduous undertaking. You become a Magician…
